The opportunity
Heart & Stroke offers a hybrid work option. For this role, candidates can work from anywhere in Canada, and must be able to travel to the Toronto office when requested. 

Reporting to the Senior Manager of Cloud Infrastructure & AI Operations, and working closely with IT counterparts and local leadership and staff teams, the Cloud & AI Operations Administrator is responsible for provisioning, installing/configuring, operating, maintaining, monitoring, and managing systems hardware, software, related infrastructure and network for both cloud (Azure) and local environments at Heart & Stroke.    

While working closely with other IT Leaders and personnel to engineer, develop, support and integrate infrastructure, applications, telecommunication and related systems, this role supports safeguarding and maintaining the integrity of IT systems including privacy, security, disaster recovery, and risk management.

How you will make an impact every day
Strategic Planning and Implementation 
  • Ensure continued alignment of Heart & Stroke technology direction with business goals.
  • Provide input, documentation, and reports on information security, disaster recovery/continuity, maintenance, and assets.
  • Develop network and related architectures and solutions based on requirements from stakeholders.
  • Implement and monitor policies and procedures relating to general IT related activities.
  • Drive standardization and automation into all aspects of the Heart & Stroke technology network.
  • Assess and recommend new technologies and best practices for adoption.
  • Identify approaches that leverage our resources, reduce costs, and provide economies of scale.
Cloud, Network and System Administration
  • Monitor network performance and integrity.
  • Design and deploy functional networks in both cloud and local environments.
  • Configure and install software, servers, firewalls, routers and other network devices in both cloud and local environments.
  • Automate network tasks and monitor their effectiveness.
  • Suggest improvements to network performance, capacity and scalability.
  • Configure, manage, and support cloud infrastructure, applications and services (i.e., Azure, M365 Services).
  • Design, configure and maintain backup and disaster recovery.
  • Design, configure and maintain remote access system for remote users (i.e., VPN Access, Remote Desktop, Azure Virtual Desktop).
  • Configure, support, and maintain monitoring systems to proactively identify and respond to infrastructure and cloud service issues (e.g., Azure Monitor).
  • Partner with the Cybersecurity team to strengthen security posture through best practices, proactive threat mitigation, and continuous monitoring. 
  • Configure, maintain, and monitor update and patch systems and deployment systems.
  • Participate in an ongoing on call rotation to provide operational support for cloud and infrastructure services.
Infrastructure (cloud and local) Support
  • Investigate and troubleshoot infrastructure problems and change requests when escalated from Support Analysts.
  • Repair and recover from hardware or software failures.
  • Coordinate infrastructure support and communicate with impacted constituencies when necessary (i.e., end-users, other IT team members, vendors and third-party agencies).
  • Install new/rebuild existing servers and configure hardware, peripherals, services, settings, directories, storage, etc., in accordance with standards and project/operational requirements.
  • Research and recommend cloud and local infrastructure improvements.
  • Actively build, configure, and operate AI services within the cloud environment, including setting up AI environments, managing access and security controls, supporting deployment and promotion of AI agents and copilots, monitoring AI workloads for performance and reliability issues, and responding to incidents to ensure stable, secure, and reliable AI operations.
Documentation  
  • Create clear and logical documentation, in lay and technical terms, for current network and desktop configuration, disaster recovery, and client settings.
  • Actively participate in policy formulation and enforcement.
  • Maintain backup system documentation.
  • Maintain availability, continuity and workaround documentation per ITIL best practices.
  • Create and maintain network architecture documentation.
Project and Other Duties 
  • Assist project teams with technical issues and help identify technological innovations that would enhance current and future Heart & Stroke infrastructure and network systems.
  • Lead network, telecommunication and /or technology related projects as required.
  • Budget planning/recommendations for network, hardware, and software.
  • Function as liaison with third party technicians and vendors when required.
  • Communicate with Heart & Stroke community in technology innovations, IT policies and procedures, and technology best practices.
  • Facilitate office changes in relations to IT, and/or advise on operations and facilities issues if necessary.
Who we need
Education
  • Post-secondary degree or diploma in IT, network and/or minimum of 5 years related experience required.
  • Azure Fundamentals, Azure Administrator Associate Certification required. 
  • CCNA certification.
  • ITIL knowledge or certification recommended.
  • Continuous training and certification accreditation for purposes of maintaining an acceptable level of information security expertise necessary for configuration management.
Experience
  • 3-5 years’ experience in implementing, managing, and monitoring an organization’s Microsoft Azure environment, including virtual networks, storage, compute, identity, security, and governance is required.
  • 3-5 years’ experience with PowerShell, Azure CLI, the Azure portal, Azure Resource Manager templates (ARM templates), and Microsoft Azure Active Directory (Azure AD), Azure Virtual Desktop and/or other remote apps is required.
  • Knowledge of Cisco Meraki Solutions (including the Meraki Dashboard and analytics), Meraki’s Wireless LAN, Switching, Security and SD-WAN an asset.
  • 2+ years’ experience with Managing Modern Desktops environment; including deploy Windows client; manage access, compliance policies and configuration profiles; manage apps and devices is required.
  • Knowledge with Windows Server workloads using on-premises, hybrid, and cloud technologies an asset. 
  • Experience with Microsoft Teams and Office365 is required.
  • Knowledge of implements and manages the operational aspects of cloud-native and hybrid data platform solutions built with Microsoft SQL Server and Microsoft Azure Data Services, including applying knowledge of using T-SQL for administrative management purposes an asset.
Skills 
  • Possess good written and verbal communications skills and be able to articulate technology to business partners and management.
  • Can evaluate and prioritize activities and focus staff resources aligned with business priorities in a high-volume environment.
  • Have a strong commitment to providing excellent and respectful customer service to variety of stakeholders with varying degrees of technical proficiency and diverse backgrounds.
  • Desire to maintain technical proficiency at a high level through formal courses and self-driven learning.
  • Be able to embrace change and support others through times of change.
  • Be flexible and service, achievement, and task-oriented.
  • Some project management skills.

This role offers a hiring range of $67,000 to $82,000, aligned with our compensation framework and your professional background.
